In the world of packaging and visual merchandising, where design, innovation, and performance meet every day, Brandart stands as a tangible example of how corporate sustainability can become a strategic driver of excellence.

Leading this transformation is Francesca Bergamaschi, Head of Compliance and Sustainability at the Group, whose international background spans diplomacy, human rights, and corporate social responsibility.

Her vision, combining rigour, awareness, and innovation, reflects Brandart’s holistic approach: a model where sustainability is not an obligation but a core value. In this interview, Francesca shares how the company is building a future based on trust, data, and a shared culture.

Who is Francesca Bergamaschi and What is Brandart’s Journey?

From international diplomacy to corporate sustainability: tell us your story.

Francesca Bergamaschi Head of Compliance and Sustainability at the Brandart GroupI began my career in the diplomatic field within UN specialised agencies and at the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg, where I worked across social, environmental, and corporate responsibility topics,” Francesca introduces.

I then held various professional roles in the field of sustainability within international certification bodies and multinational companies, gaining international experience and holding global institutional positions in the luxury and jewellery sectors,” explains Francesca.

Today, I am Head of Compliance and Sustainability at the Brandart Group, where I am responsible for developing corporate sustainability strategies, managing ESG risks at both corporate and value chain levels.

Your role is complex: it combines compliance, sustainability, and excellence. How do these three dimensions coexist in your daily work?

“At Brandart, compliance, sustainability, and excellence are not three separate pillars but deeply interconnected dimensions. Compliance ensures that every process meets increasingly stringent regulatory and quality standards; sustainability drives our design, supply chain, and governance choices; and excellence guarantees that these principles are translated into tangible value for our clients, with no compromises between innovation, performance, and responsibility.

It’s a dynamic balance that we manage every day through traceable data, integrated processes, and a culture of continuous improvement.

Sense of responsibility and building trust-based relationships

Sustainability is often perceived as an obstacle, how did the Brandart team react to its introduction? Was there enthusiasm, resistance, or curiosity?

“Sustainability has never been seen as something external or imposed; it has been part of Brandart’s DNA since its very foundation,”

“As early as the early 2000s, we achieved ISO 9001 certification, positioning ourselves as pioneers in integrating ESG principles into the packaging and visual merchandising sector. The team therefore embraced this vision with enthusiasm and a strong sense of responsibility, recognising it as a driver of innovation and growth, not a constraint,” emphasises Francesca.

Brandart has a highly developed stakeholder ecosystem, and engaging suppliers, partners, and collaborators is never simple. What strategies have you found most effective?

“The key lies in building relationships based on trust and long-term commitment. Regular visits to production sites, dedicated training, and clear, transparent communication have enabled us to align our partners with Brandart’s standards. This approach goes beyond merely transferring rules, it fosters a shared culture of responsibility, innovation, and corporate sustainability.”

Brandart's Sustainability Report 2023

Looking to the future: how do you think sustainability will transform corporate governance and Brandart’s decision-making processes? And what advice would you give to those approaching this topic for the first time?

“Sustainability will increasingly become a structural driver of strategic decisions. This means governance based on verified data, ESG metrics integrated into corporate KPIs, and decision-making processes that consider not only efficiency and quality but also social and environmental impact. Our roadmap includes the adoption of advanced digital tools, from digital twins to predictive analytics, to make corporate sustainability an integral part of our business model.

For those taking their first steps into the ESG world, the key is awareness: understanding that sustainability is not a standalone project, but a mindset that must permeate the entire organisation. I would suggest starting from three essential elements:

  • Define a clear baseline with measurable metrics.
  • Engage people by building an internal culture and motivation.
  • Establish strategic alliances with partners, suppliers, and advisors able to accelerate the journey.

Only in this way can sustainability become a true growth driver, rather than a mere compliance exercise,” concludes Francesca.

From her words emerges a clear vision: sustainability is not a destination, but a continuous journey of improvement and awareness.

For Brandart, it means turning ESG principles into tangible actions that generate value throughout the entire value chain, from design to governance, and through relationships with partners and suppliers. It’s a commitment that confirms how excellence can no longer exist without responsibility, and how sustainability, when authentic and shared, becomes a powerful force capable of guiding the very evolution of business.

It is from examples like this that Green Future Project draws inspiration, continuing to support companies with innovative tools and high-impact corporate sustainability initiatives.
